Core principles of AWP
- Implementing a standardised and user-friendly university-wide academic workload planning approach that is fair, equitable and transparent and promotes positive well-being.
- Enabling effective academic planning across departments that is agile and directly informs decisions about resource planning
- Delivering effective management information that can inform strategic prioritisation and drive efficiency and improved performance
- It will also allocate workloads on the basis of hours rather than points.
Workload Allocations & AWP Guidance
Your Line Manager will have a discussion with you about your workload allocation during your appraisal. Once your workload allocation has been entered into the system, you will receive an automated email notification informing you that it is published and ready for you to review. Once reviewed, you then need to accept or query the published allocation.

- AWP Technical Guidance for Line Managers
This is the step-by-step document that will help you navigate through each screen. The key concepts or ‘Building Blocks’ are in this handbook. Your dashboard and allocator screen are explained in detail as well as how to identify and manage an activity that is unique to your programme. This also includes how to request staff from other faculties and how to inform your Direct Reports that their workload is ready to be checked. This is a full and comprehensive handbook.
